Sony's DualSense Controller to Offer Multi-Device Pairing for PC Gamers
For many avid PC gamers, the frustration of constantly re-pairing their PlayStation 5 DualSense controller between their computer and console has been a minor but persistent inconvenience. This common hurdle is about to become a thing of the past, as Sony has announced a significant firmware update for its DualSense controllers. This update will introduce a highly anticipated feature: the ability to seamlessly pair with and switch between multiple devices with a simple button press, bringing a new level of convenience to cross-platform play.
\nThe forthcoming update will enable DualSense users to link their controller to various devices, including their PC, and switch connections instantly without the tedious re-pairing process. This functionality, long desired by the gaming community, will allow players to easily transition from a PC gaming session to a PlayStation 5 experience, and vice versa. Sony has indicated that the update will be available to beta testers soon, with a full public release expected before the year concludes.
\nThe process for this new multi-device switching is straightforward and intuitive. Users will simply press and hold the PS Button along with a chosen face button (Triangle, Circle, Cross, or Square) to assign a specific device to that combination. This setup allows for up to four different devices to be pre-configured for quick switching. To change between linked devices, players just need to hold the PS Button and the corresponding assigned face button for a few seconds. This advancement positions the DualSense on par with other leading controllers, such as those from 8BitDo, which have offered multi-device connectivity for years, and even surpasses the current capabilities of Microsoft's Xbox controllers in this regard.
\nThis development signifies Sony's commitment to enhancing the user experience for its DualSense controller beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. By addressing a long-standing point of friction for PC gamers, Sony not only improves the versatility of its hardware but also strengthens its appeal in the competitive gaming peripheral market. This forward-thinking approach benefits the gaming community by offering greater flexibility and ease of use, fostering a more enjoyable and interconnected gaming environment.
