Pokémon Go Water Festival 2025: A Comprehensive Event Overview

07/15/2025

The highly anticipated Water Festival event has officially begun in Pokémon Go, immersing players in a world teeming with aquatic creatures and special bonuses. From July 15th to July 20th, trainers globally can dive into this themed celebration, which prominently features the debut of Tatsugiri, a charming sushi-like Pokémon hailing from the Paldea region. While Tatsugiri can be acquired through raid battles, it's worth noting that its various forms are geographically restricted, adding a layer of regional exclusivity to the hunt. Beyond the excitement of new Pokémon, participants will benefit from Rainy Lure Modules that now last for an extended two-hour period, a significant upgrade from the usual thirty minutes. Additionally, successful throws during captures will yield increased candy rewards, incentivizing players to hone their throwing techniques.

The festival also brings forth an array of quests and encounters designed to enrich the gameplay experience. A premium Timed Research, "Happiness in Every Scoop," offers a unique ice cream pose cosmetic and a special scarf-wearing Lapras encounter, among other rewards, though its value primarily lies in the exclusive pose. Two Collection Challenges, titled “Water Festival: Fishin’ Mission” and “Water Festival: She Sells Seashells,” encourage players to capture specific water-type Pokémon for valuable experience points, Stardust, and additional encounters with the festive Lapras. Furthermore, field research tasks, obtainable from PokéStops, provide opportunities to encounter various Pokémon and earn Mega Energy for powerful evolutions. Throughout the event, several water-type Pokémon, including Squirtle, Staryu, and Tirtouga, will appear more frequently in the wild, with an elevated chance of encountering their elusive shiny variants, particularly for Staryu and Tirtouga. Raid battles will also feature a rotating selection of water-type Pokémon, with one-star raids including Shellder, Ducklett, and Tatsugiri, while three-star raids will feature Kingler, Gyarados, and Lapras (scarf), and Azumarill.

This immersive event encourages active participation and strategic play, rewarding trainers for their dedication. The introduction of new Pokémon, coupled with enhanced gameplay mechanics and collection incentives, fosters a vibrant community experience. Events like the Water Festival not only provide entertainment but also promote engagement, skill development, and collaboration among players, reflecting the positive values inherent in the game's design.
