Fortnite Introduces Customizable Pet Sidekicks
Fortnite is preparing for an exciting November, with the introduction of new pet companions, known as sidekicks. These companions will accompany players during gameplay, reminiscent of Pokémon, and are designed with Fortnite's unique aesthetic. The initial sidekick, a banana-themed dog named Peels, will be featured in the upcoming battle pass, introducing a fresh dynamic to the game.
Players will be able to customize their sidekicks by earning \"sidekick points\" to unlock various cosmetic items. While these points are primarily gained through having sidekicks tag along, future updates may offer more diverse methods for accumulation, akin to deeper interactive systems. Additionally, sidekicks will be namable, and Epic Games anticipates increased revenue through expanded in-game customization sales, as appearances can be permanently altered, encouraging multiple purchases of sidekicks for varied looks. Sidekicks can also perform emotes, sometimes synchronized with player actions, adding a layer of interactive flair. Importantly, sidekicks do not offer any gameplay advantages or take damage, though their visibility to other players could potentially reveal a player's location.
Following Peels' debut on November 1st, other sidekicks like Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor will arrive on November 7th. Players who already own the Bonesy Back Bling will automatically receive the Bonesy pet. Epic Games has also hinted at the future addition of feline-inspired sidekicks. This new feature aims to enrich the player experience by providing unique, customizable companions, fostering deeper engagement and offering new avenues for creative expression within the Fortnite universe.
This innovative update to Fortnite embodies a forward-thinking approach to game design, integrating companion systems that not only enhance personalization but also foster a sense of connection between players and their in-game avatars. It showcases a commitment to evolving the gaming experience, moving beyond mere competition to embrace creative expression and companionship, ultimately strengthening the community and extending the game's appeal.
