Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Receive Major Update, Celebrates 5 Million Sales
In a move to thank its devoted player base, Sandfall Interactive, in collaboration with publisher Kepler Interactive, has unveiled plans for a substantial update to their highly-regarded title, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This forthcoming content expansion aims to enrich the player experience with fresh challenges and features, while also celebrating the game's impressive commercial success and critical acclaim since its April launch.
The creative force behind the game, Guillaume Broche, confirmed that this update serves as a direct appreciation for the community's unwavering support. Players can look forward to venturing into an entirely new environment, teeming with novel adversaries and unexpected discoveries. Furthermore, the update will introduce demanding new boss battles, an array of cosmetic options through new character costumes, and enhanced accessibility via additional text and UI localizations. A notable technical enhancement includes PC handheld compatibility, as highlighted by COO Francois Meurisse in a recent interview.
Meurisse expressed confidence that players will relish these new interactions with their favorite characters. The development team, as articulated by CTO Tom Guillermin, remains deeply committed to integrating player feedback into their development roadmap. He cited the recent patch, which introduced a Battle Retry Prompt, allowing for immediate re-attempts at boss fights, as a prime example of their responsive approach to community suggestions.
Accompanying the update announcement, new artwork was released, hinting at some of the fresh content. This artwork features various children's toys, including a recognizable Esquie figure, scattered across a wooden floor, offering subtle hints and 'Easter eggs' for veteran players to uncover.
Broche conveyed profound gratitude for the overwhelming reception of their passion project. He acknowledged the global resonance of the world they crafted, citing fan art, music covers, and dedicated cosplayers as testaments to the community's engagement. This outpouring of support has been both wonderful and humbling for the development team.
Beyond the upcoming update, Sandfall and Kepler also revealed significant milestones for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The game has now sold over 5 million copies across all available platforms since its release. Its original soundtrack has also achieved remarkable success, accumulating more than 333 million streams. It maintained a top position on the Billboard Classical & Classical Crossover Album charts for over ten weeks and reached the pinnacle of iTunes Top 100 Albums Chart in nine different countries, underscoring its broad appeal.
While a precise release date for the free update remains undisclosed, Meurisse indicated it would arrive in the "upcoming month[s]." The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
