Civilization VII Expands with Free "Tides of Power" Collection and Major Update
Firaxis Games has recently unveiled the "Tides of Power Collection" for Civilization VII, making it accessible to players on the Switch and Switch 2 eShops. This significant addition, arriving with Update 1.3.0, introduces a wealth of new content designed to deepen the strategic gameplay and historical immersion of the acclaimed title. Gamers have a limited window, until January 5, 2026, to claim this collection at no cost, after which it will transition to a purchasable item.
The expansion enriches the game's roster with an array of new leaders, civilizations, and wonders. Among the notable inclusions is Edward Teach, famously known as Blackbeard, who brings a militaristic and economic focus with unique naval abilities. The Republic of Pirates offers a distinctive economic and militaristic playstyle, emphasizing pillaging and coastal raiding. Furthermore, the ancient civilization of Tonga is introduced with expansionist and diplomatic attributes, providing fresh strategic avenues. Players can also explore four new Wonders, including the Great Lighthouse and Nan Madol, each offering unique bonuses and requiring specific conditions for construction.
Beyond the new content, Update 1.3.0 also delivers platform-specific improvements for the Nintendo Switch. These enhancements address issues such as HDR options when the console is undocked and a reported bug concerning virtual keyboard input. These updates collectively aim to refine the player experience, ensuring a more stable and visually appealing gameplay environment. The comprehensive details of this update are available on the official Civilization website, inviting players to delve into the expanded world of strategy and conquest.
This initiative by Firaxis not only demonstrates a commitment to enriching the player experience but also embodies the spirit of continuous development and engagement within the gaming community. By offering substantial content additions and technical improvements, the developers reinforce the enduring appeal of Civilization VII, fostering a vibrant and evolving strategic landscape for its dedicated fanbase.
