Battlefield 6 Beta Menu Interface Improvements Confirmed by Developers
The recent beta phase for Battlefield 6 revealed significant player dissatisfaction with the game's menu interface. Many found the system cumbersome and optimized poorly for mouse and keyboard input, leading to a frustrating user experience. Despite this, the development team at Battlefield Studios has confirmed they are actively working on improvements to address these concerns, aiming to deliver a more fluid and intuitive navigation system for players.
Players widely reported that adjusting settings or customizing loadouts mid-match became an arduous task due to the deeply nested menus and tabbed layouts. This design choice, seemingly favoring controller input, created an unwelcome barrier for those using a keyboard and mouse, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the beta. Additionally, the main menu's 'Netflix-style' presentation and the class customization screens were also criticized for making simple actions, like searching for game modes or changing weapons, unnecessarily complicated. This even led to speculative theories among some players that certain content, such as classic weapon playlists, was being intentionally hidden, which the developers promptly debunked.
In a direct response to player feedback, Christian Buhl, technical director at Battlefield Studios, shared insights with PC Gamer, acknowledging the menu system's shortcomings. He clarified that while a complete redesign isn't feasible before the game's launch, the team is prioritizing and implementing key improvements based on the most prevalent feedback. Buhl candidly admitted that some clunkiness might persist at launch, but stressed a commitment to ongoing refinement post-release.
It is anticipated that the settings menu will receive the most substantial overhaul, with smaller yet beneficial adjustments applied elsewhere. A more fundamental shift for the main menu's streaming-service aesthetic would require extensive development time, suggesting it may be a long-term goal. Nevertheless, the gaming community eagerly awaits these enhancements, hoping for a more seamless interaction with the game's interface. These UI adjustments are part of broader changes influenced by beta feedback, which also include modifications to character movement, weapon handling, and crucial bug fixes like the infamous 'super bullets'. The beta served as a valuable playtest, allowing players to contribute to the game's development and providing the developers with essential data to refine the experience.
