Control Resonant: A Deeper Dive into the Next-Gen Sequel
Unveiling the Next Chapter: "Control Resonant" Redefines the Franchise
A Grand Leap in Playtime: "Control Resonant"'s Expanded Scope
Remedy Entertainment is introducing substantial modifications with "Control Resonant," the successor to its 2019 hit, "Control." These changes encompass a brand-new environment, a different central character, and an overhauled combat mechanism, among other distinctions. The developers have now disclosed that "Resonant" will also boast a considerably longer gameplay duration compared to the original.
Insights from the Developer: Sergey Mohov on Game Length
Sergey Mohov, the lead gameplay designer, shared with TechRadar that the primary storyline of "Resonant" will demand approximately 30 hours for completion. In contrast, finishing the main narrative of "Control" typically required about a dozen hours. According to HowLongToBeat.com, even a comprehensive playthrough of the first game usually takes less than 30 hours. Mohov anticipates that players aiming for 100% completion in "Resonant" will spend around 50 hours. This stark difference highlights the significant expansion of "Resonant" over its forerunner.
From Confined Spaces to Urban Expanses: The New York City Setting
A key factor contributing to this increased playtime is likely the divergent settings of the two games. "Control" was a tightly focused experience, confined entirely within the mysterious Oldest House. While the structure proved to be larger than initially perceived, most levels were restricted to relatively compact areas. "Resonant", however, will transport players to the bustling streets of New York City, promising a much grander scale and abundant opportunities for exploration. Although not strictly an open-world title, Remedy has stated that "Resonant"'s map is structured around expansive zones that encourage greater player agency in tackling objectives. This open-ended design suggests a wealth of optional content beyond the core narrative.
Crafting an Epic Narrative: Remedy's Storytelling Prowess
Even accounting for the broader scope of "Resonant"'s world, it appears the core experience will necessitate a significantly more intricate narrative to reach the 30-hour mark. Remedy is more than capable of delivering a long, intricate story. The team demonstrated its storytelling capabilities with 2023's "Alan Wake 2," a largely linear game that still offered around 20 hours of gameplay. Despite the numerous innovations Remedy is implementing in "Resonant," the sequel maintains a surprising fidelity to the spirit of the original "Control." This was the impression gleaned from a hands-on preview of the action RPG.
Anticipated Launch: "Control Resonant" Release Details
"Control Resonant" is scheduled for release on September 24, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
