Capcom Unveils Major Expansions for Monster Hunter Wilds and Resident Evil Veronica
Unveiling Gaming's Future: Capcom's Ambitious 2027 Roadmap
"Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension" Takes Flight
At the recent Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom officially revealed the first major expansion for "Monster Hunter Wilds," titled "Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension." This announcement comes over a year after the initial release of "Wilds" and is slated for a 2027 launch. While details remain sparse, the developer hinted at an expansion comparable in scale to the "Iceborne" addition for previous titles.
A Nostalgic Journey: Echoes of "Monster Hunter 4"
The upcoming "Ascension" expansion appears to draw heavily from "Monster Hunter 4," featuring gameplay elements that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia. Players will journey to a network of floating islands situated high above the clouds, a setting that many have noted bears a striking resemblance to "Monster Hunter 4's" Heaven's Mount region. Furthermore, fan-favorite Elder Dragons such as Kushala Daora and Lao-Shan Lung, prominent figures from earlier iterations like "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" and "Freedom Unite," are confirmed to make a return. The trailer also teased enhanced functionalities for the bowgun and an array of sleek new combat maneuvers.
Addressing Past Challenges and Embracing Future Horizons
Despite a blockbuster launch that saw "Wilds" sell nearly 10 million copies, the game encountered considerable criticism regarding its overly simplified hunting mechanics and persistent performance issues on PC for several months. With "Ascension," Capcom aims to reinvigorate the player experience and build upon the foundational elements of the game.
"Resident Evil Veronica" Rises Again
Adding to Capcom's ambitious 2027 plans, the studio also announced a remake of "Resident Evil Code Veronica." This highly anticipated reimagining of the 2000 classic, now titled "Resident Evil Veronica," is also scheduled for release in 2027, promising a fresh and immersive experience for both long-time fans and newcomers to the survival horror genre.
